Hi I am Peter Karberg
I live in a town called Albion Park on the New South Wales south coast in Australia. Port Kembla is approximately 20 kilometres north. Sydney is about 100 kilometres north. I work at the steelworks that is at the port as a protective service officer (security, ambulance, fire) which provides me with excellent opportunities to pursue my passion for ship photography. (I also go out of work time). I am 48 years old & married to Lesley. We have 2 grown up kids. Ships have been a passion of mine for much of my life.
Regards
Peter
Hi Peter
Good to hear from another member - must be good to have such ready access to ship photographt whilst at work ;-)
Regards
Steve Ellwood
Welcome Peter and we look forward to seeing some photographs from Kembla.
Richard
Hi Guys
It helps while working but I prefer to go when off work. I can access many more view points particularly with lighting as the works is on the south side of the harbour the sun becomes a nuisance particularly in Winter. Uploaded some pics last night till the wee hours. The site is very easy to negotiate. Credit to the Site Admin in researching all the ships data already on the site. Must have been very time consuming. Also Richard your old website was one of my first stops when researching my Dad's ships. You have quite a few pics from that era.
Best Regards
Peter
Hi, my name is Scott, i am 46yo living and working in Melbourne, Australia. I am the Ship Liaison Officer at the Stella Maris Seafarers' Centre in Melbourne. For those who do not know what the Stella Maris does, we help assist with crew, mainly foreign, who work on the many vessels that come into Melbourne each day. We are a charity organisation providing free transport, internet, telephones, as well as pastoral assistance. My job is looking after the material type of things, shop, bar, internet, transport, etc. Even though I deal with the crew of the ships rather than the ships themselves, I maintain a database of all ships that come into Melbourne, the type of crew they carry, any problems or needs by members of those crew, the route they travel between ports etc. Have also now started to collect data on the ship itself. Hence my need for fotos of the vessels to attact to my database.
Ship visiting is also an important role and I often get to visit the ships but upgraded security does not allow me to take photos o the ships whilts they are in port.
Our website, if anyone is interested, is
http://www.stellamaris.org.au/welcomeship.html
I thank everyone of you for your effort with this website and making available the information that you do. Any new info I get from visiting the ships will also be gladly added to your site.
Best regards,
Scott Cook
Hi Scott
Welcome onboard ;-)

Hi Everyone,
Nice to find a site that has lots of the info that I like to look for. I always try to include the build date of ships when I photo them; this is not always easy to find.
Best wishes
Dave
Dave,
Welcome aboard. Thanks for some great photos already.
Richard.
Thanks for the welcome Richard; I will upload loads of photo's when I have finished collating them all.
G'day all! My name is Steve Thomas. I live near Ipswich and Felixstowe and so get to see quite a variety of ships that call at these ports or pass by.
Shipping has been a passion for me since I was a boy. I guess it started when I was taken to see HMS Bermuda by my uncle, who served in her during the war, as she was being scrapped at Briton Ferry.
I've worked for Lloyd's Register updating the Register of Ships, and as a journalist working for Seatrade, Lloyd's List, Shipping World, and MER to name but a few. This is a great job for a ship enthusiast as you get flown all around the world and you just have to go to shipyards, ports and waterways to do the research you need! You also get to meet some great people and hear some fascinating stories along the way.
Who - Mike Costello
Where - Burnham on Sea, England
What 1 - recently retired thereby allowing me more time to do shipping research. I have a fair size database of my own and concentrate on ships, their builders, dates, renamings and other statistical data, however I don't hold crew lists etc.
What 2 - I am currently trying to identify as many Japanese merchant ships as possible - from 1875 to the present day. I can get most detail from Lloyds Registers and the Miramar ship index (and now this site) but images are harder to come by all the way over here in UK. As you can appreciate, an image is all important to ensure that the ship you are adding to your database is actually correct and not another with the same name.
If any member wants help with a vessels identity, or more likely History, I will try to help if you can provide some basic information: Name, Year built, builder, company etc. Obviously not all the info may be available but every little helps; especially if there is a photo. If you send me a message then I will try to reply with a potted history, including name changes, signal codes, official numbers etc., if I have them.
